Difficulty with installation...
I have completed all of the pre-installation steps necessary as listed at: http://training.handsonconnect.org/m/6676/l/75070-installling-contacts-organizations-package However, after clicking "Get It Now", I'm redirected to login again. At this point my password doesn't work anymore. I've tried over a dozen times and for some reason I get locked out. Please help!

Nice starter app for Non-Profit Organisations
I have used this App with a number of Non-Profit Organisations, and think it is a great starting point. There are lots of NFPs that just don't have the resource to spend on configuring a new CRM, so this is really great in getting them up and running very quickly. Obviously this is a relatively generic solution, so remember that once you try this out, you can still make further tweaks. Ask for some help, or have a read of some training literature and you can very quickly make some additions to your Salesforce Org. And dont be afraid, you dont have to be a techie!!
Great application to get around issues with Person Accounts
This is a great alternative to Person Accounts. If you are doing B-C the Salesforce model of Accounts and Contacts doesn't work hense Salesforce introduced person Accounts. Unfortunatly this can have side effects if you installing apps from app exhange that don't support person accounts or sometimes in reporting. This gets rid of all those issues by still maintaining the Salesforce model of Accounts and Contacts for B-C but essentially hides the account for B-C accounts. The only reason I have it 4/5 overall is because it says it works in Professional edition, which it doesn't.

FreedomVoice, for VOIP integration, and Mail Chimp do not support the Person accounts.
Sorry Ted only just saw your post. I've had problems with mass email solutions in the past. Also there is an odd thing in the Apex query language that if you have person accounts on you have to type something specifically into the query in some circumstances (I can't remember what it is off the top of my head). Problem is a developers sometimes don't think to include or exclude this depending on if the org has person accounts enabled or not so the app errors.
Francis, you are right on target. It's far better than person accounts since it still has the normal SF accounts and contacts structure. May have to change some tab and field names, some other populated fields (using workflow) and it also has useful features like recurring donations (= payments) and the payment schedule. Not a perfect solution, but what is?

Slightly off-topic, but what apps have you run into that don't support PersonAccounts?
Great addition for any nonprofit
The entire nonprofit community is indebted to the Salesforce Foundation for the product donation and also for the Nonprofit Starter Pack. This free add-on makes Salesforce even more useful and easier to use for nonprofits. I don't know how nonprofits functioned before it was available!

unfortunatly as we are a french small non profit organisation, we were not accepted by sf foundation as eligible for non profit program...so we have to pay, and this is what we do for our 2 users...but because we have to pay we can't affort higher edition than profesionnal edition...and because we can't afford enterprise...we can't use this non-profit feature :-( I feel this very badly
Perfect for mulitplying the power of giving
I am so grateful to Salesforce Foundation for making this product available at no charge for up to 10 user licenses. Getting away from the mishmash of Excel spreadsheets and Access databases has allowed us to move into the cloud, clean up our data, significantly reduce overhead time (Which spreadsheet has the most current address was a common "search and find" sneaker net activity for us.), and stay in contact with our donors in a much more personal way. NPSP does require knowledge of the platform and thereby a learning curve and some customization, but the support is better than fantastic. I've never had to wait more than a couple hours for an answer to a question I posted. The video tutorials are excellent. I am convinced that any office manager could easily learn to be a system administrator once all the customization is done. Again, kudos to Salesforce for the business model of empowering nonprofits to multiply private charitable giving. GIVE a man a fish, he'll eat for one day. GIVE a man a fishing pole (with instruction manual), he'll eat every day. Thanks for for the pole and instruction manual, NPSP.
Just to follow up, I went back and retried without installing it into a Sandbox and it worked.
