Apttus Billing tool for Device-As-A-Service Offering from Lenovo

After a bake-off on functionalities between Steelbrick and Apttus, Apttus was chosen as the winner for providing recurring/ usage billing functionalities that closely aligned with Lenovo's requirements. The functionalities required were - 1. Create customer orders based on staggered deployments over a period of 3-5 years. 2. Generate subscription billing (monthly, quarterly, yearly) billings including tax (with Avalara integration). 3. Integrate billing/ accounting and finance related info. with Lenovo back-end financial systems for revenue recognition & cash collection. The plan was to use agile methodology to pilot a Device-As-A-Service deal in US and a big-bang expansion to other geographies based on country specific specs and requirements. Apttus billing engine was flexible for recurring billing functionalities although additional technical setup was required to track Usage based billing (defining unit of measures such as GB, Hours of deployment) etc. - (hence the 4 Stars). The back-end integration with SAP ECC systems was flexible and easy to implement as additional complexities for various geographies came in. Apttus was able to accommodate additional in places where Avalara (tax engine) could not support - ex: recycling fees for laptop screens. Overall, working with the Apttus professional services team was a good experience which had a lot of skilled folks. Happy to work with them again in the future.
