Question on how to have this work account specific

Hello, I am not sure if I am missing a step but I installed the program in our sandbox. I then set up the alert message. My question is how do you get this alert to work per account you are looking at. I added the Lightning compoent on the account page but I do not see any specific results. Is this program designed for this? Thank you for your help on this. Sue

You have to set up a Google Alert per Account. It's not sending the Account Name or anything else to Google. It's just displaying whatever the Alert you have already set up returns.

how do you set up the alert for specific accounts? can you please answer the question?

If you open up Lightning Page Builder and click on the component, there is an attribute called 'Feed URL Field' where you can put the API name of the field that holds the URL for the Google Alert. Alternatively you can just put the URL into the Feed URL attribute, but then it would be the same for every record.

Did you ever get an answer on this? I'm curious about the same thing?

Would like to include more Alerts on the Homepage

Installed in our sandbox and was able to get it working very easily. Really nice - it resembles SF News (retired), which our company loved. The only downside for our users, is that we cannot have more than one Alert feed the Homepage. It would be very helpful if multiple Alerts could feed into the 'static' Homepage (like SF News), rather than users having to navigate to individual Account records to find recent related news. If this can be done and I just missed it, then apologies (someone show me how)! Outside my requirement, I would say this is a slick little app.

I am trying to install, but I am having error message pop up: Error in getRSSFeed method of RSSFeedCtrl:unexpected markup <!d (position: START_DOCUMENT seen <!d...@1:3) This is using the Feed URL: https://www.google.com which agrees to the Remote Site that I set up.

Problems with Alerts that contain more than one word

I noticed that this app will give you 0 results as soon your alerts contains more than 1 word. Whenever you just 1 one word eg. Salesforce or H&M it works. It's tricky but it seems to work. If it would be possible to fix that would be great.

Hi Marc, i have the same problem. Have you find a solution? When I write account with two or more names ( e.x.: JD Sport) the system shows me news about JD and a series of articles that contains the world "sport". Can someone help me?

I have to change my comment from above. It does not always work with 1 word. It's very strange because sometimes the alert preview looks fine but when you follow the RSS link then no articles will be shown. Probably more a Google than an App prob.

Easy nstallation

I was able to install this easily. But I am not able to customize the alerts based on account name. it just picks a keyword such as Salesforce, outsourcing etc. But doesn't relate it to account name.

Trouble Installing - US instructions?

I've tried installing this, also using support for the 3rd party that built out my Salesforce. Do you have US instructions? The current instructions discuss adding alerts on google and then adding an RSS feed. Shouldn't this feed current contacts and accounts that are already in Salesforce?

How can we customize this app?

I have installed this app and it's working fine based on the RSS feed Url so how can I customize this app based on the Account name?

Yes i was referring to that, but it looks like there has been a hold up getting that approved internally. I'll chase up and let you know when it's working.

You can define a different Google Alerts URL per Account, and store the value in the field on the Account record. However this app doesn't automatically generate Google Alerts Feeds based on Account Name. If you'd like to customise it the source code is available at the bottom of the Overview tab.

Can't get it to work

I followed the instructions in the instruction guide (that definitely needs an update, for example, the deliver to option is only available for Gsuite Accounts, it would have been helpful to mention in the guide for anyone who use outlook). Second, I setup everything, added the component and URL field in the accounts but when I add the URL, I get this: Error in getRSSFeed method of RSSFeedCtrl:Unauthorized endpoint, please check Setup->Security->Remote site settings. endpoint = https://www.google.ca/alerts/feeds/08314741712242483400/3318718865731565781 The thing is, when I go to Remote site settings, this won't show up. Plus I hope I don't have to do this for every record.

Thank you for your review. I have updated the Listing Description to reflect the fact you need a Google Account to set up the Feed. The errors you got are most likely because you didn't read step 4 in the installation Guide. The guide outlines the fact you need to create a Remote Site Setting record, and that you only use the 'Base' of the URL to do so, which means you won't need to do it again for any other feeds that come from that site.
