TagIt allows salesforce admins to pre-define a list of tags that their end-users could then apply to Accounts, that’s to prospect or customer records. Tags can be associated only to the account object, it can not be associated to other object types.

Read only Account record users can only view tags. Read/Write only Account record users in addition can also add/remove tags.
