I have been a client of Toptal since 2017. They have provided essential software engineering resources for my time in academic research, two startups, and now in the commercial sector. I have formed a habit of taking Toptal with me when I change organizations. That speaks to the incredibly consistent resources they provide with very accurate skillsets for my required role. Though starting with Toptal to procure software engineering resources, I have now seen their work in both hardware engineering and financial analysis. I can say that, without a doubt, my next resource from Toptal will be a perfect fit for any role I identify. In addition to the very skilled talent, they are quite cost-effective. Please let me clarify. I have, in many situations, found myself hesitant to use resources I've identified myself at the cost of under $50/hour. On the other hand, I have never hesitated to use a Toptal resource for $150/hour or more. The reason lies in the "overall cost of ownership" when engaging engineers. While my $50/hour engineer may build a complete solution in 40 hours, the $150/hour Toptal resource invariably completes the same work in less than a day. The result is that with Toptal, I get the best results for as low as half the final cost to the project. It is this calculus that brought me to use Toptal exclusively in my startups, in lieu of any full-time employees. This engagement enabled me to maintain a successful business on an extremely tight budget. Now that I am the Director of Engineering for a multi-million dollar company, I continue to use Toptal because thier model scales. Where my startups may save $5,000/year on a tiny project, my current organization may save upward of half a million dollars each year.
