Data Security Question
Hey, we've tested your App in our DEV Org and are really happy about the benefit your application brings. When we tried to install your package in our PROD Org we got the following message from Salesforce: "When you allow access, the app and a third party can access your data." Can you ensure us that only the data valid for the EU VAT Check gets used and accessed. Thanks and best regards Paul
It has stopped working.
It is giving error in the component 'Failed to check VAT Number The application returned a unknown error message, try again later.'. Tried to remove the component, added again with correct field API name still the same error.
Hi all, We have updated the app to version 0.5, which now returns clearer error messages in specific cases. Unfortunately, VoW (VIES on Web) has confirmed that our IP addresses have been blocked due to a substantially high number of requests to a specific Member State (MS), namely Lithuania (LT), through the VIES on the Web service (link) in one day. Salesforce has also confirmed that the IP addresses are published and can/should be whitelisted. The issue arises because VoW can be called from various packages on the AppExchange or even from non-packaged custom org-specific code. We cannot confirm or deny that the peak requests originated from our package. It seems unlikely, as our component on a record page can only be called one by one each time a record is consulted via the Salesforce Lightning GUI. However, we suspect this might have been caused by some automated batch process triggered from a different app or custom solution altogether, sharing the same Salesforce backend IP addresses. We have raised a case with Salesforce to trace the origin of these requests. We advise you all to do the same. While Salesforce may be cautious in sharing sensitive information, it seems to be the only way to identify the source. Please keep us posted about your initiatives, and we will do the same. Thank you for your understanding.
Hi Everyone, we have been able to reproduce the problem on a specific set of Salesforce Orgs that seem to be hosted on the same Hyperforce AWS datacenter : eu-central-1 Europe (Frankfurt) – see : https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000396845&type=1 https://docs.aws.amazon.com/global-infrastructure/latest/regions/aws-regions.html The underlying error message is "javax.xml.rpc.soap.SOAPFaultException: IP_BLOCKED" So to current hypothesis is that the EU VAT Service is currently blocking the IP range that originates from that Data center. This could probably affect all DEU(S) Salesforce Instances. It would be great if you could help (in)validate that hypothesis. Could everyone affected please check their SF Instance: Company Information: Navigate to Setup > Company Information in your Salesforce org. ( see also https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=000384755&type=1) And check the IP address of that instance by following the instructions suggested here: https://www.codementor.io/@sunilkumar97/how-to-check-the-ip-address-of-the-salesforce-org-2czfkjhe0x If you could let us know here the details or communicate the details to the EU Service: see https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/#/faq (Q15): TAXUD-VIESWEB@ec.europa.eu that would be greatly appreciated ! :)
Thank you for notifying but I'm unable to reproduce it in my orgs for now. Would one of you be able to provide debug logs (to: jean-luc.raes@inetum-realdolmen.world) or "Grant Account Login Access" to "Inetum-Realdolmen Support ", preferably to a sandbox ? Or any hints on how to reproduce it ?
Hi @Jean Luc Raes, Just wanted to let you know that the issue is still there — we are still seeing the same error. It doesn’t look like a temporary glitch, so we could use some help with this. Would it be possible to have a quick call to look into it together?
Simple and effective although I would have wanted a Last Valid VIES check field so I can use this in
The app does what the description says. Easy and simple to install and it works with different formats and countries. If necessary you can even change the regex in the backend. BUT it would be nice in the component to be able to add a write back field apiname in which the last succesfull valid Vies check happened on the object where you place the component. Having some field with either a date or that the VAT is valid or something can be used in diffreent kinds of ways. Make a check mandatory before ordering, guiding users to update and validate the vat number. Blocking users to move further before correcting the Vat, things like that.
Unfortunately not working - Now working again :)
Is the package not working anymore? I'm facing the following error: It says: EU VAT Check Failed to get record data. We couldn't find the record you're trying to access. It may have been deleted by another user, or there may have been a system error. Ask your administrator for help. Error ID: 97831718-16994 (1527322116)
Hi Sjoerd, I think there is a misunderstanding. This one is actually occurring when using the label of the VAT field instead of the API name of the VAT Field when specifying this in the lightning app/page builder. I heard the new (Salesforce) tooltip on lwc text properties resulted in this confusion: "This property supports using an expression to define its custom label" resulted in this confusion. We cannot remove that default tooltip, but we have added a custom explanation before this text in the new version 0.4. Kind regards, Jean-Luc
Unfortunately stopped working
It was a great service. But we just see the following message now: "Failed to check VAT Number: The application returned a unknown error message, try again later." Could you please review it? We are heavily reliant on this :)
For your info, there can be temporary problems with the member state databases of the EU Webservice (https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/#/vat-validation) Here is an interesting site where you actually can see if a member state is having difficulties (a bit similar to status.salesforce.com :) ): https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/#/self-monitoring So it is possible that you experience problems at a certain point in time with Spanish VAT numbers but not with VAT numbers from other countries. With the url above you can even query the load for each country hour per hour in the last days. Please also be aware that the different countries can return address info differently and that UK Vat numbers are not in scope anymore.
Hi Arpad, Rene and Ine, This must have been a temporary problem, is that possible ? If not, and you are still experiencing this problem, could you provide a screenshot to me: jean-luc.raes@inetum-realdolmen.world or message me on my trailblazer account ? Kind regards, Jean-Luc
Same here, did work great for about 3-5 days, all over sudden just returning this error. Been trying this for many years now as option to clients, always same issue. does work and couple days or weeks later providing this error, hence the actual record has not updated or whatsoever that my cause limitation errors
It works perfectly
It's a great app and makes a VAT check very comfortable :) I only have one question is it possible to integrate check in to reports? I couldn't find any information regarding this.
App is great and fast but I have no address
I tried the app and it's great but I have no address or name in my sandbox. It just tells me the format is correct and the VAT number is valid.
Hi, I'm not sure I understand. You mean the address info for the company VAT you have entered is not returned ? That can be different between the different member states (so the country of the VAT number itself) The component will only return info that is being provided by the EU Service (and the member states): https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/#/vat-validation
The API has stopped working
Great service but unfortunately it has stopped working and now only return Internal Server Error 500 message
Is it possible to capture the response
It was a really cool App. But is there any possibility to capture the Response whether it is a Valid or Invalid VAT, or update any field based on the Response. Any Email Alerts or Chatter Notification triggered on the response will also help.
VAT Checker
Nice tool, is it also possible to trigger/update fields based on the validation result?
Hi Paul, yes of course, only the VAT field that you specify in the config of the component is being sent to the EU Vies webservice (which we do not own), the 2 first characters representing the country code are sent separately as if you would enter it here : https://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/#/vat-validation
