Ideal for Investigating Legacy Objects
This app is indispensible for researching the status of mature Salesforce orgs, especially if there has not been sufficient documentation or architectural standards applied. Being able to provide evidence that fields are not used, or little used, makes people a lot more confident when condensing or removing them.
Love it
FieldSpy does exactly what it says it's going to do. I was able to generate an export of analysis on my Contact object for my team with zero issues. Would recommend to anybody looking for an easy and straightforward app.
Installation in Production Org
I am not able to install this app in production org
It works, but has some issues
I've finally managed to scan all the objects in our Package, in a Production Org, but it wasn't a simple task. The UI could do with some work. It shows 20 records at a time, each of which have to be manually selected - there is no 'Select All' at the top of the left column and, for some reason, browser plugins that select all checkboxes don't work. The boxes are checked, but the app doesn't recognise this. Make the number of fields displayed configurable (as we see with lots of SF list views) and add a 'Select all' checkbox that works. Once I'd done this, I started the scan - around 90 objects. It did about 20 and failed on one, and stopped. The reason for the failure? It tried scanning a Platform Event object(ending with __e, instead of __c). It makes sense these can't be scanned - but why are they even selectable? Also, if one object fails - move onto the next. Don't just stop! Anyway, back to the manual selection (because the previous selection is not now available) and a restart - and this time it completed. So, the results? Back to the list view with 20 records per page. the first object I looked at had 14 pages! So, export it? Yes, I can do that but... First, I can only export one Object at a time. I don't want to sit there and export 90 of them! Second - the exported file - it has the Object Label as a column, but not the Object API Name. It does have both fields for the fields. I used Workbench to export a Bulk CSV to get all the records (2736 in my case) in one go from the sonar__Field_Details__c and the arent sonar__SObject_Name__c objects. I would have posted the entire query but there's a character limit for this box! And I have a question - the sonar__References__c field. What is this for. Is it the number of times the field is referenced (like we see in the 'Where is this used' button in Object Manager? Version 1.15
Needs to be able to filter Objects
Useful and easy to use tool. However, not being able to analyze field usage on a filtered subset of an object is a deal breaker, unfortunately.
Looks Cool But Failing in Prod
I really want to use this app to identify dead fields in our production environment, but the job keeps failing. Not sure why. I installed in sandbox and that worked fine, but not in prod. Can I get some support on this issue? I have the latest version of the app. Otherwise, looks cool and looking forward to trying it out.
Links to analysis not working
I have the latest version of the app, mine is showing version 1.7. But I am still unable to see the results of the analysis. How can I get help from the support team to fix this issue?
Was working fine until Winter '25 Salesforce release.
Was working fine until Winter '25 Salesforce release. Now users are missing checkboxes to select objects so it become useless for them. I as Administrator see those checkboxes. They have granted Permission Set but still see UI without checkboxes. Even reinstalled app with giving access for a whole user's profile and still nothing. Please check that issue.
I am having the same issue also on version 1.15 Another issue is that, as an admin, when selecting an object for analysis, it is not retrieving any records for processing (showing 0 records in Objects to Analyze screen. This ap is currently un usable. Unless this is fixed this app should be removed from the AppExchange.
Help with more context
Hi team. The App was installed correctly, the analysis was generated. However, when I click on the name of the generated analysis, I do not see any information about the specific fields. I hope you can help me. Greetings.
Thank you for alerting us of this issue. An unforeseen conflict with Salesforce’s Winter release impacted FieldSpy’s user’s ability to access the completed FieldSpy population percentage analysis for all Salesforce objects. This issue can be resolved by upgrading to the most recent FieldSpy release, 1.15, now available on the AppExchange. It can be found here: https://appexchange.salesforce.com/appxListingDetail?listingId=a0N4V00000GuIM2UAN Once the upgrade to 1.15 is completed, if you cannot access existing or new FieldSpy analysis results, please clear your browser’s cache. Thank you, and we appreciate your patience while we resolve this issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. FieldSpy Support
Won't open links
Ran the analyzer successfully, but the links won't open for me to see the completed analysis.
